Utah Database User Group

Welcome to the Utah Database User Group. This site will serve and support several databases for users anywhere in the world, but especially for those in Utah and surrounding states. We have a mail list on Google Groups, and an IRC channel on Freenode (#udbug). Some such databases include:

  • Access
  • Firebird
  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • MySQL
  • OpenOffice.org Base
  • Oracle
  • PostgreSQL
  • SQLite

For the time being, This is also the home site for the Utah MySQL Users Group (umysqlug.org) and Utah Open Source Database. If sub-groups grow enough, they may split off into other groups of their own. However, since most databases have a few things in common, perhaps a combined group will best serve everyone's needs, perhaps even helping users of other databases to understand other open source databases. Register and share your thoughts on the matter, or comment without registering. Unregistered user comments will wait in a queue until the administrator can approve them.

Studying for Microsoft certification

I'm going for my MCTS: SQL Server 2005 certification. Then I'll go for the MCITP: Database Developer certification. But I just noticed they're coming out with the SQL Server 2008, though there aren't any certifications yet for it. Anyone else in the same boat? It seems that there isn't much activity in this group. Maybe it's because the .NET group has more of it. Here's the thing, yeah, I can program, but I really want to do database work. So... Anyone else out the same? Thanks.

Another reason for me to get the mail list going...

This doesn't answer your question, but soon I will have a mail list up where you and anyone can ask questions like this one. It will be a more likely way to get a response. I'll likely have the mail list up very soon. When I do, I'll announce it on the home page.

Great idea.

I look forward to helping people out, as well as learning. Thanks for setting this group up. Definitely count me in.

USOD

I look forward to participating in the group and helping others out with pgsql.

General

I think this is a great idea and I'm kind of surprised that no one has done it before now. I have used all four of the os databases that are listed here. I used Firebird when it was only Inprise. I know it has changed somewhat since they created the os version of it. Does anyone know if they have created a serial data type yet? Before you had to create a trigger to do this. I have used MySQL a bunch and it is still my database of choice. PostreSQL is a wonderful database. It always reminds me of older databases such as Informix, MSSQL, and Sybase. I have never used SQLite in a project (yet) but it is very interesting. It seems a good fit for small C++ projects where I need a smaller local or embedded database. Anyway, I hope to see a lot of good posts on here.
